Why My Quilted Bandana AirPod and Credit Card Case Became September's Best Seller
September’s best seller surprised me, but in the sweetest way. This little case is useful, padded, giftable, and fun to make. Sometimes the small projects are the ones people connect with the most.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes this quilted bandana airpod case so special and explore the key factors that have contributed to its popularity this month.

A small case that turned out to be really useful
The idea behind this case is simple. It holds AirPods, earbuds, cards, or other tiny essentials that always seem to disappear in the bottom of a bag.
I added a lobster claw clip so it can hook onto keys, backpacks, purses, zipper pulls, or tote handles. That one little detail makes it so much easier to use every day. Instead of digging around for earbuds or a card, the case can stay clipped right where it is needed.
It also makes a thoughtful gift. Some people are easy to sew for, and some people are not. This is one of those handmade items that works for a lot of different people because it is practical, small, and not overly personal. It is great for tech gear lovers, students, travelers, teachers, teens, or anyone who likes having their little things organized.
I also think it makes a nice “just because” gift. It is small enough to tuck into a stocking, gift bag, care package, or birthday box, but still feels special because it is handmade.
Why I use foam instead of fleece
One detail I really love about these cases is the padding.
Instead of using fusible fleece or high loft poly batting, I make mine with foam. That gives the case a thicker, cushier feel without making it floppy. The foam helps the case keep its shape and gives it extra protection for earbuds or cards.
For a little tech gear case, that structure matters. AirPods and earbuds get tossed into bags, clipped onto keys, and carried around all day. The extra padding makes the case feel more finished and sturdy.
For sewists, this is also part of what makes the project so satisfying. It is small, manageable, and does not take a huge amount of fabric, but the final result feels polished. You get that “I made this” feeling pretty quickly.

The design stood out on Etsy
One of my favorite parts of this whole thing was hearing from a client who said he liked my design because it was so different from the other listings he had seen.
That made me smile, because Etsy has so many options. When someone pauses and chooses your handmade item because it feels different, that means a lot.
He ordered his case with a coordinating keychain in black with a dark purple lining. I loved how that combination turned out. The black gave it a clean look, and the dark purple lining added just enough surprise when you opened it. It felt custom, useful, and a little unexpected.
That is one thing I enjoy about making these. Even though the shape is simple, the fabric and lining choices can completely change the personality of the piece. Banana fabric feels fun and bright. A black and purple version feels a little moodier and sleek. A classic print can make it feel timeless.
That flexibility is why this kind of project works so well as both a product and a pattern.

Everyday Uses of My Quilted Bandana Airpod Case Accessory
I rely on my accessories daily for convenience and security. Here are two key items I use:
1. AirPods Case
I have a dedicated case for my AirPods that keeps them safe and secure. This case not only protects my AirPods but also ensures that I always know where to find them.
Since using this case, I've stopped losing my AirPods, which has been a game changer for my daily routine.
That was a costly error on my part. I ended up buying a new pair because I simply could not find my old pair!
2. Wallet
Another essential accessory I use is my wallet, which is compact and efficient. It holds my credit card and driver's license, making it easy to carry during short errands. This wallet allows me to travel light while keeping my important items handy and accessible.
I did not expect a little AirPod and credit card case to become my best seller for September, but here we are, and I am honestly so happy about it.
This case started as one of those small, useful sewing projects that checks all the boxes. It is cute, padded, practical, and easy to clip onto the things people already carry every day. Right now, I am making them in the sweetest banana fabric, and they have such a cheerful look. They feel playful without being too much, which is probably part of why people are noticing them.
I'll be branching out into other fun fabrics. Especially the fabrics I'm designing myself! I'm supposed to receive my first shipment this week!
A great easy sewing project for makers
If you like small projects, this one is a good fit. It does not need a lot of fabric, and it is not overwhelming. It is the kind of project that lets you practice neat stitching, layering, hardware placement, and finishing.
It also has room for creativity. You can play with:
Main fabric and lining combinations
Thread color
Quilting lines
Keychain attachments
Matching wristlets or key fobs
Fun prints for gift giving
This is also where fabric choice makes a big difference. I love how a small case can show off a favorite print without needing a big yardage commitment. A banana print feels cute and sunny, while bandana fabric, 100% cotton, sewing project, easy sewing, etsy listing, quilting project, handmade gift all fit the heart of what this little case has become in my shop.
And yes, I know the search terms can get oddly specific. If someone is looking for a quilted airpod and credit card case with lobster claw, this is exactly the kind of handmade piece they are hoping to find, padded, useful, and easy to clip on and go.
What is coming next
Because this case has been such a happy surprise, I am working on a few things for anyone who wants to make one.
Soon, I will be uploading a tutorial on my YouTube channel and on my sewing class platform at SewChill.com. I am also writing a PDF pattern download, which should be available in the next week on my Etsy shop.
I am excited about that because this really is one of those projects that is fun to sew more than once. Once the first one is finished, it is easy to start thinking about who needs one next. Your mom, sister, dad, brother, friend, granddaughter, grandson, co-worker, bible study leader, and/or teacher. The list is endless!
A bandana one for someone playful. A darker one for someone who likes simple colors. A bright one for a backpack. A soft floral one for a purse. A matching one for a handmade gift set.
Currently, I have this AirPod case and credit card wallet available in 20 different colors. You can select your preferred combination from these options. Below is the infographic I designed for my Etsy listing.

You can make one or grab one already finished
If you would rather sew your own, keep an eye out for the upcoming tutorial and PDF pattern. I will be sharing more very soon.
If you want a finished case now, this is a good week to shop. I am running a 25% off sale on all tech gear, including the AirPod cases. Sale ends 10/2/2026.
